Current Food Recalls
By Staff | Dec 26, 2007
About a week or two I gave you two websites where you can find food recalls due to allergies. The foods are usually recalled due to undeclared allergens (milk, eggs, nuts, peanuts…). Sometimes the wrong label is adhered to the product; sometimes the traces announcement is not included. With lots of foods being given as gifts, I wanted to give you a list of the most recent recalls over the past couple of weeks.
Continue to check your labels and check the recall sites, but here are the most current:
Hazelnut, Walnut, Pecan Allergy Alert
December 17, 2007
Whole Foods Market is recalling 3-oz. “365 Organic Everyday Value Swiss Milk Chocolate Bars with Rice Crisps” due to undeclared hazelnut, walnut, and pecan. These were distributed in Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Texas, and Wisconsin.
Wheat Allergy Alert
December 13, 2007
Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., is recalling 8-oz. “Wegmans Bouillabaisse Seafood Sauce” due to undeclared wheat sold in Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
Milk Allergy Alert
December 13, 2007
Cedarlane Natural Foods is recalling 6-oz. “Cedarlane Low Fat Bean Rice & Cheese style Burritos” due to undeclared milk; this product was distributed throughout the country.
Harry & David recalls Harry & David Bake Shop Cookie Mixes in Three Flavors: Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Peanut Butter and Cranberry Vanilla Chip for Undeclared Nut, Milk and/or Sulfite Allergens
The recalled items may be quickly identified by checking for a match of the flavor description on the hang tag at the top of the jar with the flavor description on the price sticker on the bottom of the jar. Jars being recalled have flavor descriptions that DO NOT match.
All of the recalls state that you can bring your product back for a full refund. It is much better to be safe than sorry! As a reminder, check, check, check your labels. This is a crazy time of year and no one can be as careful as yourself. Check the food recall list, too, and if something doesn’t look right, don’t eat it.
