Experts Change Advice on Kids’ Allergies
Experts are changing advice again on the best ways to prevent allergies in children during pregnancy or as infants. Now they are saying the only thing known to help is to breastfeed. Avoiding certain foods during pregnancy or in early years has no real indicators of lessening allergies later in life. As with so many other aspects of the medical field, the most consistent thing about the advice we get is that it will probably change at some time! (source)

Food Allergies Stir a Mother to Action

A Colorado mother of 4 is taking a stand that the number of food allergies is related to the amounts of processed foods in our society. Her theory is that with all the formulated, contrived foods are that children are eating, allergies are growing and getting out of hand. She started the site www.allergykids.com to spread awareness and information on food allergies and foods. Though there is not a lot of hard evidence to support her, she may be on to something; take a look. (source)

Asthma & Allergies: Not a Great Combination

A recent study shows that those that suffer from allergy and asthma have a lower quality of life. No big surprise, huh? The study questioned more than 14,000 asthma patients, aged between 18 and 60 years, and their doctors. Those with allergies tended to have more severe asthma as well. (source)

Family Sues Baseball Team After Player Cut Over Allergy Spat

Winnipeg family files suit against baseball team after their son was let go from the team. Paul Kraemer,15, (who has food allergies) was a member of a team that earned a trip to the nationals in Quebec City. His dad insisted on staying with the team to monitor his son’s health which went against team policy. Paul was let go from the team days before the finals and now his parents have filed suit against several parties. (source)
