Fun Halloween Recipes

By Heather Legg | Oct 30, 2008

As usual, I was looking around the internet for some fun, healthy, allergy safe Halloween recipes. And you won’t believe what I found. All of them! Check out familyfun.com to get them in detail, and see some great images, because it’s a great fun site for families. Granted, these recipes are not geared to allergies, but many of them fit the bill already and a lot of them can be altered to fit your needs. There are a lot of almonds for fingers and teeth, so think of a substitute for that, maybe some sort of candy or you have plenty of other cute and spooky choices of recipes.

Some of my favorites are the melon brain, simply peel and carve a personal size watermelon to look like a brain, with the pink showing through, eyeballs made from carrot slices spread with cream cheese and topped with a black olive half and witch’s brooms made from only pretzel sticks and fringed fruit roll ups.

We do like to feed our kids a fun healthy dinner before trick or treating, that way they’re not so tempted to munch as they go, and we can sort out the candy when they get home. This site has plenty of meals as well, including spaghetti with eyeballs (green olives) and tuna spook sandwiches, all you need is the idea and you can fill them with anything. They are sandwiches cut out in cookie cutter Halloween shapes.

I think we will try the Sweet Skull Cupcakes, too. Hmmm, I’ve got a whole easy, Halloween meal planned that’s simple, fun and allergy free for my daughter. I like these recipes because they are simple and kid friendly, which also means less chance for  allergens to sneak in. Check out the site, it may even spur to create your own fun Halloween treats! Most of all, have a SAFE and spooky Halloween!!
