My Weird Allergy

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

It’s been so long since my allergy has popped up, I sort of forgot about it. That is until the other night. My husband and I had gone to dinner together, just the two of us (a quite rare occasion in our household). I was drinking a glass of wine and had a bite of his seafood appetizer. Then a few minutes later, during the entree, it hit. Continue reading…

A New School Year

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

For the past few years, I’ve done my prep for the school year and my daughter’s food allergy before school starts so everything is ready, in place and everyone knows about her allergy. Another year is about to kick off in less than a month (where is the summer going!!), so here is what i’ll do: Continue reading…

Take a Walk

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

Next month begins the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network’s (FAAN) Walk for Food Allergy. There are over 30 locations nationwide and even if one is not in your area, you can still be involved. I was just talking with a friend doing the 3 day Breast Cancer walk (whom I am very proud of) and remembered how important fund raising is to finding a cure. With fund raising walks (and I’ve done my share, too), not only do you raise money, but just as important, you raise awareness.

This is FAAN’s statement: Continue reading…

Interesting Site: PeanutAllergy.com

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

I usually take some time to browse around and see what other good blog sites there are related to allergies. I like this one I recently found – www.peanutallergy.com. “PeanutAllergy.com is the internet’s fastest-growing peanut allergy community. Our goal is to bring people together around nut allergy issues by providing concise, up-to-date information and a meeting place for concerned parents and others with nut allergy concerns. PeanutAllergy.com is categorized, searchable and accessible.. with easy-to-understand fundamentals and (to) empower you to dive deeper with links to in-depth resources.” Continue reading…

More Allergies on the Rise

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

We’ve been wondering over the past few years why allergies are so prevalent now. Adults now have trouble remembering anyone with peanut or milk allergies in their classrooms, or anyone who had to order burgers, no buns due to gluten allergies. Continue reading…

Food Allergies and Ear Infections

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

We often think of ear infections connected to seasonal allergies, even environmental ones like dust allergies because we know those cause congestion and excess fluid. However, they can also be caused by food allergies. Mostly we think of food allergies and anaphylactic symptoms like hives and swelling, but they can also cause congestion, eczema and irritability. Because of the congestion and excess fluid, ear infections commonly occur in children with food allergies, even undiagnosed ones. Continue reading…

More Than Just Peanuts And Pollen

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

We all know the large number of people allergic to pollen and certain foods (peanuts, soy, wheat are some of the biggies), but what about all the other culprits sneaking around out there. Many of them you may not even be aware of. Strawberries are making their way up the allergy ladder, with more and more being wary of as well as allergic to them. I’ve also been hearing of beans, like lima and fava beans causing allergic reactions. Continue reading…

Everyone Handles Allergies Differently (Or Do They)

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

A few days ago I was talking with a friend who also has a child with a food allergy (his is peanuts). We were talking about how careful we are with what our child eats and what precautions we take. It seems over the years, for both of us, the precautions have dwindled. Continue reading…

Kudos to Cold Stone Creamery

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

Since it’s summer time, of course there is ice cream. The other night, we went to Cold Stone Creamery. It’s a nearby ice cream shop and for those not familiar with it, it’s where you choose your ice cream and on a giant, really cold marble slab, they mix in your chosen treats, For instance,  you can get vanilla and mix in chocolate syrup and Kit Kat candy bars, or strawberry ice cream with strawberries and sprinkles. Continue reading…

Food Allergy Site

By Staff | No Comments »

I received a newsletter the other day from www.eatingwithfoodallergies.com and it is full of great information. In accordance with the summer eating, I think the following recipe may come in handy. As for us, we eat much better breakfasts in the summer since we have more than a few minutes of rushing before rushing to the school bus. Continue reading…
