Quote of the Day - February 7th:
Most patients don't follow daily treatment regimens no matter how good their doctor is. That disconnect is huge, and it's a large factor in how well we control asthma in kids and adults.

My Doughter’s Cedar Allergies

By Heather Legg | 3 Comments »

Recently my dog got a new bed, one that smells great and is full of cedar shavings. Lo and behold, what do you know, after my daughter played with her on the new bed, she (my daughter, not the dog) broke out in hives. It was the cedar. She was fine with some Benadryl and we’ll switch out the bed to a non cedar stuffed one, and chalk it up to a lesson learned. I did some research, though, and it’s interesting what I found. Holiday Traditions

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

The other day I was talking with my daughter about my holiday memories and traditions. You know what stands out the most to me as my strongest holiday memory? Sitting around a card table after a big holiday meal, playing cards with my grandfather and cracking nuts and eating them. Sort of ironic, huh, since my daughter is allergic to nuts?  Another thing I loved about Thanksgiving was my mom’s chestnut stuffing. That, too, is a thing of the past. Now the chestnuts are replaced with apples and cranberries. It’s still yummy, but some of the nostalgia is gone. Continue reading…

Say You’re Thanks

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

With all the worries we have, we need to remember to be thankful for our blessings; we need to know gratitude. We worry about the economy, global warming, the country, the world. We worry about our kids’ achievements and our own. And for those of you reading this, you probably worry about allergies. But for at least one day, on Thanksgiving, put your worries aside and just be thankful. Continue reading…

As a guest, what’s the best way to be a gracious guest while ensuring your safety with food and food contaminants? How do you know the food is safe from allergens? Continue reading…

Words From A Nurse Practitioner

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

I recently had an opportunity to talk about allergies with a nurse practitioner and found what she had to say informative and soothing. I have written about my allergiest experience from years ago and still think that was just awful. He was adamant that anytime there is the slightest indication of a reaction, use the Epipen. Whether it’s a hive a mouth itch, anything. I liked what the nurse practitioner had to say. Continue reading…

The Return of Eczema

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

The weather is beautiful out. The humidity is down and the first cold mornings have arrived. And so has the eczema. We’ve already seen itchy legs with my younger daughter, and our friend’s son has a pretty flare of eczema. It’s covering most of his body, even his face. So what can you do when turning on the heat takes so much of the humidity out of our homes? Yes, dry makes our hair look better, but it can take a toll on our skin. Those of us susceptible to eczema and dry skin need to be ready to fight the battle. Continue reading…

By Heather Legg | No Comments »

For those suffering from allergies, medicine may be the only way to find relief. And it may involve medicating every day.
