Allegra (Fexofenadine)

Allegra (Fexofenadine) is a second generation, minimally sedating antihistamine that produced fewer side effects than the first generation antihistamines (diphenhydramine and brompheniramine).  They are less sedating and are not known to cause dizziness or impairment of the cognitive function.  They are also a safe prescription for children with no known negative effects on learning abilities.  Fexofenadine is prescribed to treat seasonal allergies and chronic urticaria.
Recommended dosage for seasonal allergies for adults and children 12 years or older is 60 mg twice daily or 180 mg once daily.  Children 6-11 years old should only be given 30 mg twice daily.
