Flonase etc. (Fluticasone)

Flonase nasal spray which contains fluticasone is effective at easing inflammation in the nose and lungs.  It is prescribed for respiratory allergy symptoms such as runny nose, stuffiness, sneezing, nasal itching, sniffling, and congestion.  Fluticasone in particular is a corticosteroid used to control asthma (a condition wherein the airways become blocked causing difficulty breathing, chest tightness, wheezing, and coughing), but it is not effective in stopping an asthma attack that has already started.
It basically works by decreasing the swelling and irritation in the airways to facilitate unconstricted breathing.

Kelly Cox:

This particular medicine made me lose my sense of smell. It returned a few days after I quit using the product. A few years later my new doctor prescribed it (saying that couldn’t have been the cause) and the loss of smell returned. Now I use nasacort and have no problem.
